National climate plans
When it comes to climate action, long term planning is essential.

This is to ensure that emissions targets are met, and to avoid unwise investments.

EU governments should be required to set national climate neutrality targets, and set out how they will contribute to the EU's net zero goal for 2050.

This can be done via the EU's 'Fit for 55%' climate package, which should change the Governance Regulation.

EU countries and the Commission should also have to update their long term climate strategies every five years.

Only some countries have a net zero climate target as of February 2022. WWF is calling for the EU to require such national targets. See full map and table.
